The Bolingbroke Hospital was established by Canon Clarke in 1876 with investment from philanthropic sources. It first opened in 1880. Unfortunately, between 1941 and 1944 it was damaged in air raids during the war. In 1948, the hospital became part of the new National Health Service. On Monday 8th December 2008, the hospital closed its doors and all services were transferred to a new site about a mile away at St John's Therapy Centre after rendering valuable services to the local community for almost two centuries.
