Yes, I know it well. Used to go there at weekends all the time. You should stay overnight, after the daytrippers are gone it is much nicer. You can get there bu getting the train to Jiashan and then catching a bus to Xitang ( 20 minutes ride0 You can get a taxi but the bus always served us fine. Stay for more than 2 nights and everyone in town will know you. Very friendly apart from the 2 shoe shiners and the marauding busker duo. A polite but persistant Bu yao will suffice. Stay inside the village, not in the hotel outside, that way you save on the entrance fee and will enjoy the nights more. Best place to stay was directly opposite the bridge where the boats are tied up on West street, facing the river. It has a vine outside and is very noticable for that reason. JT92012 I visited (a little) China in 2007. It is a big and beautiful country and this cityis absolutely divine.
