That's actually Mt. Champlain. Not Mt. Cadillac.
If you click on the photo to make it zoom you'll see a vertical white swatch on the side of Mt.Champlain. It appears just to the right of the house on the island. That's the landslide that resulted from the Oct 2 2006 earthquake which closed the East face (renamed Orange and Black) trail for just about exactly 2 years. The earthquake was magnitude 3.8 centered in the ocean just off Great Head/sand beach.

Hi downeastergal, it turns out that my wife and you are related. Ida and Eugene are in her genealogy records as distant cousins.
Also, the house I mentioned above was your neighbor. You may well have lived there when my wife's grandfather or even her mother was living there. Do you recall Winifred?
Little white house down the hill by the stream. We call it the Kane house. We go there in the summer.
By the way, I'm sorry to tell you that your old house is no longer there. A couple of years ago the people across the street on the ocean side purchased it and leveled it.
I don't know if there is a way to email other users here. But my wife would love to say hello.

That photo was taken from the smaller cove to the south west of the one where it's postioned on Google Earth.

Not sure where that photo is taken from but it defintely wasn't taken from where it's positioned on Google Earth. The location where the photo is positioned on Google earth is next to a salt water cove with a recersing salt water river. It has no march grass and the mountain across the way is not the mountain in the photo. The mountain in the photo looks a bit like Cadillac/Dorr. Not Champlain which is the moutain that can be viewed from the location on google earth.

That's Mt Champlain on Mount Desert island. The camera is looking pretty much due west. Schoodic Mountain is on the mainland almost exactly north of the camera by about 15 miles.

It was taken across the street from Thunder Hole as you exit the park store. A slight look to the left will give you this view.

This picture is not taken from or at Mt. Cadillac. It's taken from the top of Gorham Mountain looking south at Otter Cliff to the left and Otter Cove to the right.

That boat was stuck in the mud there for over a year. Some thief had gutted the insides of everything of value.
But it was finally moved out of there the end of August, 2008 and put to anchor in Sullivan Harbor. A much better place for a boat then stuck in the mud.

That's not Mt. Caddilac across the bay but Mt. Champlain. That vertical white streak midway up the mountain in the center is the land slide that resulted from the Oct 2006 earthquake.
