I don't know what it is exactly. Here a description of the site that I already posted with another photo: It's a 12th century fortress built or at least enlarged by Saladin (Salah ad-din,he is known for leading the Muslim armies during the Crusades and recapturing Jerusalem). The fortress is located between Suez and Aquaba along a ancient route which connected the two gulfs. Today it's quite easy to reach, turn off the main road from Suez to Taba after the Mittla pass (at the checkpoint, heading south)or on a sideroad coming fom Ras Sedr. The road is open but you have to pass several military checkpoints. The fortress is on the top of a steep 300 m peak but it's not difficult to climb up. From the top you'll have a wonderful view. Many vaulted rooms and cisterns, hewn into the rock can be seen in the centre of the fortress, there is also still a lot left of the lower parts of buildings and parts of the impressive external walls.

Nawamis are circular tombs dating back to 4000-3000 BC. They can be found in several places in the southern Sinai.
