I have lived in the area a mere 29 years, so I don't remember the bakery. I was standing a bit north of where Loblaw's was, in front of what used to be Davis Hardware for this 3 picture panorama. I spent a lot of time in Norm Davis's hardware during my DIY home renovation years. Now there are no hardware stores within walking distance.
In the late 70s, where HMV and Toys R Us are, had been Fairweather, Big Steel Man, and S&B Sound. There was a nasty rusticated concrete facade and unfriendly steps...what an awful complex it had been!
I remember walking up that path with my mother in 1975. :) Playground was on the left; it had a concrete tube that a four-year-old could bang his head on.

The store on the NW corner (across from the BofM) had been a Richards Big and Tall men's shop back in the early 1980s.

Back in the late 1970s, this was a Texaco gas station. I think it had green shingles. It was boarded up for a while in the 1980s; then this was built.
