Jim Dunaway

Jim Dunaway I recently retired from an exciting career as a choir director. I hope that my efforts in photography might eventually rival my accomplishments in music. My photography spans decades and started while I was still in high school. I spent 2 summers at Idyllwild, a fine arts summer camp in southern California's San Jacento Mountains. While there, I took a 2-week photography class from a soft-spoken older man, a fascinating photographer, who would develop large black and white prints each day, bring them to class while still wet, and then would ritually rip them up at the end of class. I can still hear the agonized moans of the attendees when he did this. My first camera was a Zeiss rangefinder. I got my first SLR bodies in my early thirties, but I quickly abandoned them in favor of a Hasselblad 6x6. I schlepped the Hasselblad thousands of miles through Zion National Park, the Sierras, and the Alps. O yes . . . the older man at Idyllwild was Ansel Adams.
