This is a Kaiten manned torpedoe (Special Attack) weoapopn. Used by the Kamikaze Tokubetsu Kogekitai (Tokko) in attacks against the American fleet at toward the end of WW@ or Pacific War as the Japanese called it. The Kaiten (Turning of the Heavens special attack weapon) was an improvisation of two of thebNavys Type-38 Ling Lance torpedoes enlarged and welded together. The front contained approx 3000lbs HExplosive while the rear section contained the drive and an aft section for the Pilot. They were launched from submarines when enemy ships were sighted. They were carried on deck of the sub (up to six) and the pilots entered them through a hatch from inside the submarine. They could do 40knots, had a range of 18000m. Few were successful and the pilots usually self detonated if they missed.
