Supposedly made safer by reducing the depth of this pool following the tragic drowning death of four visitors on June 16th, 2004. Note the lack of handrails on the precarious steps leading down to the pool. With water rushing beneath your feet, descending these steps causes a sense of vertigo that may lead you to fall and bash your head into the concrete. Keep your kids under close surveillance if you and your family visit this park. Poorly designed. A bad reflection on the architects Philip Johnson and John Burgee.

A badly neglected, deteriorating memorial to a nearly forgotten hero. Al Hayne died on May 30th, 1890 as a result of rescuing women and children from the Texas Spring Palace fire. Unfortunately the recent efforts to preserve the monument appear to be too little too late.
