Thank´s for your video. It is really great! I enjoyed it as my trip to Laos. I was in Laos three times and I have the same experience - the better is to go there in dry season.
Last we were in Laos at February 2010 (the end of dry season), so we couldn´t see mud puddles. The road was quite good, dry and hard. The biggest river was not far in front of Attapu (Xe Pian river - see my pic in Panoramio). But this river wasn´t difficult to cross. We met there two guys on motorbike and they was crossing the river successfully too.
We were in Laos 10 days and, in fact, we tried to find the black glas-stones named tectites (but not very successfully :-) ) As I remember we went: Paxe - wtfll Pearl of Mekong - Muang Khong, M. Khong - Thang Beng - Attapu (rte 18A), Attapu - Xaisetha - Xayden - Attapu - Paksong - Salavan, Salavan - Tahoy - Salavan, Salavan - Toumlan - Savannakhet - Mouang Phin, M. Phin - Xepon - Mouang Nong - M. Phin., M. Phin - Xepon gold mine - Ban Vanghin - Seno - Viengtai. I tried insert my photos through all our trip - so You can see its.

hi ellon5! that lake you took picture of, is it the former open pit mines at Larap? i can't believe that water has filled it up and made it a sort of a lake. i remember it very clearly: that the pit was almost 1km deep and 2km wide... i used to see it when i was a kid while visiting my father at his workplace with his lunch... i don't recognize the terrain around it... what i remember was that on the farther end of the pit was vertical walls carved out of the mounntain side while on the other side was just plain ground
