Since the revolution this place in not anymore accessible. The entire street in front of the palace is blocked by steel construction reinforced with barb wire and armored vehicles.

The AUC library building has suffered during the revolution and the 2011 November clashes which took place here. The brass name letters got ripped off to use it as weapons and the entrance corner is black from smoke in fruitless attempts to set the whole building on fire. Due to its extremely solid design the building resisted but is remaining closed until today, December 2012. The connected building next behind was also housing the English Theater. Its top floors got torched in the November clashes 2011 and left it as a ruin.

Since the revolution the wall on the left side of the street is entirely painted with street art which is giving this end of Mohamed Mahmoud St. a very different look.

The Nile Hotel is as well history now as the Nile Hilton. Since fall 2010, shortly before the revolution, the hotel is closed and the whole building is under re-construction. At the present time it's stripped to its skeleton receiving a brand new inside and outside. It's planned to be opened as "The Nile Ritz Carlton" in 2014.
