This whole area was a small community during the 1950's to 1980's, there were houses on lots probably 1-2 acre in size at the time. There was a community pond at the end of the development.
I grew up nearby and had some friends in this neighborhood. The Airport kept growing and bought out this area in the 90's . I grew up in this area and my childhood home, Berryhill school, and even the street I grew up on are all gone thanks to the Airport expansion, But I guess that is progress.
General view. Notice the gate and the unidentified communication tower. I think it has something to do with the airport communications rather than cellular.
The end (or start?) of the Whippoorwill Drive. Here we can see the only standard city of charlotte streetsign. It doesn't show the drive we've been walking along.

Close up of the sign
Farther view of the sign. The drive is supposed to continue about 30 more metres after the sign, but nature has its way.

These markers are also tied to vegetation along the drive suggesting lot numbers.
