....this is Prince Albert Memorial in Hyde Park on the Kensington side...you can see the prince under the roof and looking straight at the Royal Albert Hall on the other side of Kensington Gore. His wife, Queen Victoria, built this memorial and the hall as well in memory of her dear husband whom she missed terribly after his untimely death.

...thanks for the info, louisven, I had guessed it would have been something of that nature... you only have to imagine two hundred years ago and you could almost see men, women, and children in chains passing through this place....such was the inhumanity of man to his fellow man, a means to an end, sadly we have not progressed further on from those dark old days !!

....I stayed here in the late seventies, Hotel Imperial, and lovely memories it conjures up now. As I recall, the Maxim night club was just across the road where I thoroughly enjoyed their hospitalities.
