Very nice picture. I have been down the path 2Xs. The second time we were shooting for the butte in the background of your picture. It is on the map as Deer Point. We only had a day and were not able to find a route through the fold, but your picture is so clear, I was really happy to see it again. Thanks.

Hi, thanks for your kind comment about the 'Sleeping Chief" picture - did not know it was called that way. I love your pictures about the Southwest - a place I travel to almost every year. Will be there in September for a trip with the Sierra Club in Canyon de Chelly.

I could not hold a job in Page because I'd be out every day looking for some place like this. This was down hole in the rock road and then up the sooner slide -- again a number of years ago. Not sure what kind of condition the road is in. This gets you to the bench. Then there is a cattle trail to the top -- maybe 600' to 800' elevation. Then there are a few miles to the edge to see Navajo Mt. This is one of my favorite places on earth becasue it is so isolated and I've only managed it twice.

The road up is in very bad condition. Did you see any cattle or fresh evidence up on top? What time of year were you their? See any snakes? We saw one small rattlesnake on the way up.

Coming north from Big Water UT to Escalante UT. This is the one of the few routes across the Kaiparowits region. You will not see a lot of traffic here! This is within the boundries of the GSENM in Utah.
