The building is called the Basilica of the Assumption for short and is no longer the cathedral. The Cathedral of Mary Our Queen is at 5200 North Charles Street.

This was a "stub" (dead-end) railroad station, built before the Civil War, with tracks and platforms that once extended from the rear of the station (left side of photo) toward Philadelphia and points north. I believe president-elect Lincoln arrived here c. March 1861 en route to his inauguration. To continue south to the capital at Washington, it was necessary for Lincoln to transfer to the Baltimore & Ohio station west of downtown Baltimore. Despite the objections of anti-Union mobs, Mr. Lincoln got through, with the help of Pinkerton guards. In 2008, the future of the station was unclear, as controversy ensued between developers and preservationists. I'm not sure if it still stands.
