Ja. Deutschland ist einfach zu klein für sowas. Und ich glaube auch, es gibt Leute, die wollen nur mal sehen, ob es schadlos möglich ist, Flugzeuge stillzulegen :) LG Michael

No, nature doesn't always grow back. Species that once go extinct are forever gone. Granted, these forests are likely to return - if allowed.

But these forests are being converted to agriculture, and managed as such. In such a system, the biodiversity is dramatically reduced. The tiered-forest systems are not replaced, the O2 generation capabilities are reduced, the soil depletion rates increase, there is increased susceptibility to infestations and disease.

It's like comparing free range animal husbandry to feedlot operations.

Salvage logging degrades the delicate fire-affected forest even more. Salvage logging requires the construction of access roads (see photo). Sediment from this construction, from truck traffic and heavy equipment operating on slopes silts up streams, destroys fish habitat, etc. Put a price on this, and then do the math.

Nature will regenerate the forest from the fallen trees much more readily than from a barren slope (or one that has been cleared and then replanted as a monocrop.) It has been doing so for millennia.

With the construction slow-down in the U.S., much of the Northwest's timber is now destined for export. The Japanese have learned to preserve their diminishing forests. Maybe we'll learn to preserve our forest environment for future generations and not cash it out for a quick profit.

Hi

My name is Tim Brooker and I am a member of Hamilton East Rotary Club in New Zealand.

As a charity fundraiser I am producing a Coffee Table Book called Hamiltons of the World - we have found 120 Hamiltons on 5 continents!

I was hoping I could use this photo - we would obviously attribute accordingly. Could you please send me as high definition as possible by email.

All proceeds will be going to Rotary Charities around the world.

I hope you can help me.

I look forward to hearing from you.

Tim Brooker

Wow! That will make a huge difference for the region. I hope they will preserve the natural environment though. I must go back to see!

Thanks for the information.
