Former early 20th century railroad bridge and railway turned into a fabulous Western New England bike path; absolutely wonderful.

This section crosses the Connecticut River.

Hey there,

Since you've mentioned your adventures a few times before and managed to get up to the FAA tower in Cummington on the road with the signs that scared me away, I've got a question for you:

How much do you know about the building underneath the tower? I know quite a bit about it.

It seems that American Tower (the company who maintains it) is rather careless. They leave the gate to the tower itself open constantly, and one day a set of double doors had a tight chain around the latches, clearly hanging open about a centimeter each.

I'd love to walk around that building, it's an awesome piece of history. I actually approached a friendly-looking Cingular worker one time up there, basically asking if he would consider showing me around the building, and he said he'd be glad to--if only he had a key. I even e-mailed American Tower a while back asking if they'd consider giving a tour to the town historical committee, and someone replied that they obviously had few resources to do anything like that, but he would pass my request onto another department to see if they could "accommodate me during a future planned trip." I never heard anything back.

One person said they knew someone who broke in and saw inside, but I don't believe that (nor would I ever try it myself), those are big metal doors with 6 or 7 pin Best locks on them, plus the building is all concrete. I just don't see how they could ever get in there.

So...any chance you've ever managed to see the inside? Any suggestions for myself, I just can't seem to get American Tower to care much about it (though I wouldn't expect they would), and I never see anyone there.
