Here is a link to some related video footage that I shot at the Taungpulu Monastery back in 2010 during the United States Burmese Medical Association (USBMA) Kathina (Monk's Robe Offering) Ceremony: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=GCy2cCPjU3w

I checked out the San Jose Night Market, which is held on Saturday night from 6 PM to 10 PM through the end of September on the grounds of the San Jose Flea Market (entrance to the night market is via the Maybury parking lot.) Much like Los Angeles' '626 Night Market', the San Jose Night Market tries to emulate the night markets of Asia, hence most of the food vendors offer Asian and Asian-fusion cuisine. The south end of the market is almost exclusively gourmet food trucks serving up a lot of Asian-Mexican fusion (Thai tacos, Korean tacos, etc.) along with some straight-up Mexican, Chinese, Thai and Western (some of it involving things being bacon-wrapped). The north end of the night market has the actual tarp-covered food stalls, with the grilling and frying done outside next to the stalls, and also has some stalls selling merchandise. The north end better emulates the Asia night market vibe, somewhat reminding me of the night markets that I visited in Thailand. It's well-worth checking out if you don't mind spending about $6 on two tacos or a fried chicken fillet; assume that you'll probably drop about $20 for a full meal if you're hungry.

The Wat Khmer San Jose Buddhist Temple is located at 2751 Mervyns Way, San Jose, CA 95127 (Tel 408-770-9171). It is operated by The San Jose Cambodian Buddhist Society, Inc. (http://watkhmer.org/)
