Yes, Saltwellside seems to go back to 1324. It appears that the well was reconstructed in 1876. It is now at the bottom of a deep dene in Saltwell Park but the original was probably at the side of Saltwell Road before the road was levelled and straightened. There is a famous biblical quotation carved in gothic characters and it is called Salte Welle in synthetic old English.
