this is the entrance of the Islamic Hieratic School (Athens Ottoman Period 1458-1833). The Islamic Hieratic School is known as Mentrese (Or Medrese). its a magnificent piece of art, Arab Epigraph can be seen at the toop, and has flower decoration on left & right sides. Its has been completely reconstructed by Hellenic Ministry of Culture. After the Ottoman Period, the Hieratic building used as a jail , a very hard jail (many prisoners hunged on a famous plane - Platanos - Tree. When the building stoped to be a jail, Atheneans destroyed the building in ONE night. Only the door left to remind the Islamic hieratic school and the VERY hard jail. Next to the Islamic Hieratic School (Mentrese) there is an ancient Mosque, the "fethiye camii" (Victory mosque) builded on 1458 by Mehmed the Conqueror (and it is under of full reconstuction right now -Aug 2014).
