Looks like Tahiti, but it's really Leadbetter Beach (west of West Beach) in Santa Barbara, CA. In the 1920's, this was just downslope from the yucky oilfields of the Mesa. The smell was atrocious, and then in 1969 the Great Oil Spill from a rupture on the offshore platforms caused the entire coastline to become uninhabitable, especially for wildlife, who died in droves. The response from humans living here was to organize GOO - Get Oil Out - and to initiate Earth Day, which has become a worldwide movement and made organic living sexy, much as the restored beaches.
BRASTAGI, Lake Toba, Northern Sumatra, Indonesia. July, 2021 A.D. (REUTERS) The Indonesian Minister of the Interior announced today from Djakarta, that the very last tiger on earth was found dead today, shot by a trophy hunter from East Asia, where the whiskers and eyebrows are believed to have aphrodesiac properties. Of the original nine genera of tigers, the Sumatran Tiger was the last to survive into the 21st century.
The coordinator of PAWS - People and World Systems, out of California, USA - commented on the tragedy of extinction worldwide, where we lose 400 species a year. "Tigers are particularly tragic, though," he said, deploring the stupidity of humans in their mad rush for exploitation. "This could have been prevented, with enough intervention early on," he added. "Revolting."
Eight is right, eight is enough, eight is as it should be. Unfortunately, this really old guy who lives in the lap of luxury at the Channel Islands National Park Visitors Center at Ventura Harbor, is missing that last bit of dignity. But he is curious and interactive. Go give Larry a visit and ...uhhh... handshake, gently, please.
Fish fresh off the boats who went out into the Santa Barbara Channel, in the California Bight, last night, and served to you this midday. Calamari, anyone? Flounder? Anemone?
The "Queen of the Missions", Santa Barbara, CA. Destroyed in the earthquake of 1925, it was lovingly restored and strengthened. The bright colors harken back to ancient Greek temples, which were brightly painted, not just dull white. This mission is constructed of sandstone mined locally.
East Beach, Santa Barbara. There are a couple places to rent these bike surreys, this one is 'Wheel Fun'. Everybody pumps, and everybody goes along the long promenade, from the western end of Leadbetter, past the harbor and yacht club, the Dolphin Fountain, and then past the Art Walk, on past the many volleyball courts on West beach, to the Bird Refuge, and back. Bring hydration.
This arborway seemed an archetype of a canopy trail, looking west northwest, just inside the trailhead to Parma Park, Santa Barbara, CA. Stanwood at Foothill, in the hills above the Riviera.
Goleta Slough, looking northwest up to the end of the parking lot of the county park beach, where these two ladies parked their trailer so they could paint plein aire, looking out to the debouchement of the creek, where all the great Goleta Slough painters set up.
Berkeley Farmers' Market, beside City Hall, and Civic Center Park, just west of Milvia. Note the price of tomatoes. (Did I spell that correctly, Mr. Quayle?)

She was the only one to consistently catch the good sets coming around the rincon onto Leadbetter Beach, that day. Aspect east.
