This is near the dam site selected Sir William Halcrow and Partners (on behalf of British Aluminium & Comalco) for a dam site for a proposed hydro electric project. Power was proposed to be taken to Wiepa in North Queensland to prosess alumina at a Comalco refinery. I was the Comalco surveyor who surveyed the dam site and the potential storage area in 1958-60.
We saw these falls and the larger Wasi Falls by boat and helicopter ride many times during our two years in Kantobo. The sound of the Mubi River crashing down those limestone cliffs was unreal...
My wife and I spend two years (1997-1998) as Peace Corps volunteers in Kantobo along the Mubi River. There isn't a day that goes by that we don't think of our time there. Thanks for this photo.
