This is Ashridge House, now Ashridge Buisness School, a gothic revival country house built in the early 19th century by James Wyatt for the 7th Earl of Bridgewater. I’ve no idea what was there in 1608.

This building was always called The Shack and originally accommodation for Officers attending courses at Shoeburyness. I was there from 1975 to 1979 and my room was to the left of the green door.

I went to school here 1954-1962. It was an Endowded school. The Infants were at the end next to the churchyard - juniors at the far end with the headmasters house in the middle. The steps led to his front door. Two playgrounds & the most beautiful garden on different levels at the back. Happy days :) The building is now sadly housing :(
