As a young navy lieutenant I spent three month in this place. It was in Spring 1967. At that time,an octogenarian person, Mr. Carlos Gil,a former union leader, lived in Puerto Navarino. He arrived in 1929, deported by the dictatorship of General Ibañez. After he served his punishment he decided to stay there. He told me that in the 1930s there were a population of 3.000 to 4.000 yagan indians. Most of them died due to flu infection. All in a period of 30-40 years!
Ricardo is the one in the plaid shirt and glasses, and Ambassador Plasa is the one in the white shirt holding the video camera. The guy in the blue jacket behind Ricardo is ornithologist Steven McGehee. After Ricardo finished his talk, I had a closer look at that big gun. It was made in New York.
