Not counting a Kodak Brownie Camera as a kid, my tenure with a camera goes back a bit longer than I've been married. And, that relationship is 38+ years and still going. It's been wandering around between being a passion I teach to others, an escape from work stresses, and helped pay the bills. I think I've counted the number of individual camera bodies carried over the years in the high teens. Film, in sizes from 35mm to 4x5, with a heaping helping of "medium" formats, fill much of that timeline. Somewhere around 2003, the idea of playing with a digital camera found us. What it did for me was serve as reminder of the "fun" sense of working with a camera, in finding that sense of discovery and willingness to explore a subject, without worrying on how each and every 6x6 "professional" film frame had to justify its reason for being, or being created. Now, I create more unique frames than I did back in my film days. That passion hasn't worn off, or worn down. I also rather enjoy being more of a "generalist" photographer, rather than being settled in any one genre. At various times, the focus has found landscapes, portraits, events and weddings, figure, city subjects, and/or abstracts of one sort or another. I've found too many bits of wisdom and experience gained from one style that have crossed over to too many others. And... I already have a wide-ranging interest in the world around me, that the camera simply tags along and takes in. These days, that long-standing passion still wavers between a source of an income, a foundation to convey to others its technical and aesthetic aspects, and still an escape into a world of visual discoveries that step me away from far too many work and commute hours.
