Sea Pink it is. Such genotypical differentiation between Trifolium and Armeria would then confirm the coastal affinity of the latter.

This is the Kingsgate footbridge which spans the River Wear, built in 1963 and desigend by Sir Ove Arup. A Bronze Bust of Mr Arup can be found on the East end of the bridge.(Also shown on Panoramio). The bridge is now listed as a Grade 1 building.
