This place has the best Lake Perch dinner. Very fine food. The service is great, too. It's a nice place to take the family and friends. I wish they were in Kentucky.
My mother used to be a waitress here, just around the time the photo was taken from the looks of the cars. They don't make them like this any more.
Thank you very much Rob!! I have corrected the location en included your info and the very handy website to my website ForwardLook
Wonderful old picture!
Cheers from Guayaquil, Ecuador.
Happy New Year!
I can see a front of the 1960 Ford on the right in background of this 1956 Olds.
"Sandra" was a schoolmate of mine at Glenview Elementary (1952 or 3) and her parents the Whitlowes or Whitlows owned the motel until 1954 it seems. During these times anyone who owned a business was deemed to be successful and prosperous and of course, the Interstate had not re-routed much of the traffic from Mufreesboro Road.
I was just there about a week ago. The Vendome sign is gone from the hotel, and the distant Texaco gas station is gone. But the hotel on the right corner across from the Vendome (in the Delaware Block building) is still impressive. Most of the electric/neon sigs are gone, and some of the old brick buildings have been painted green, lavender, and light blue. Like!
Looks likes a converted Howard Johnson restaurant. A 1959 Chevy next to a 50s pink Mercury dates the photo. Like!
It sounds so familiar; I may have stayed there. My family passed this way every year during the 50s an early 60s. L&F!
Two "five & dime stores, and an old Studebaker! Like!
