Kudos for trying this in a Suzuki .. We did it last week and it took a toll on the poor old souped up Colorado.. Lucky we were in a bullet proof Landrover 90. :)
Hello John, I first visited this site in April 1995 during the centenary of "Waltzing Matilda". It was my first visit to "Outback Queensland", that is, west of Emerald anyway. i must say we had an incredibly wonderful time in the district.
At that time most of the original roof of Old Cork homestead was still intact, along with most of the verandah on all sides and the outbuildings. I think all of the verandah framing waqs still standing as well as about 2/3 rds of the roofing still on.
I was much saddened on a subsequent visit in June 2004 to see the deterioration that had occurred in those nine years but I see by your pics even further. It's good to read on the sign of the intentions to preserve thing but my pictures show that it's a bit late. If you are interested I could scan and send you the two lots that I have taken. (both on old film camera). petebarnz@gmail.com
