This building is the "koothumaadom"of the Chinakatoor temple.It is a location where Puppet Shadow Plays based on Ramayana incidents similar to "Wayang Kulit"of Indonesia/Malaysia are staged nightly prior to the main pooram festival,(vividly depicted in the photos of the caparisoned elephants taken by Raghunathan.)Koothu is in the form of verses in Tamil by background singers(Koothu Kavi) accompanied by Percussion Instruments.The puppets are of leather manipulated by skilled puppeteers as shadows on a white cloth screen
