Thanks! That's quite a distance actually; though it does make sense that you should be able to see the highest peak in the state from the third highest peak in the state. -Malcolm

At the HBR Vistor Center, it states that it was constructed by slave labor for then an existing plantation (pre Civil War). Obviously, either the wall has stood the test of time, or it was improved (or constructed, my opinion) by the Civil Conservation Corps. Now is maintained by the NPS. It roughly form a border between the NPS and USFS lands, in this area.

Thanks for the nice comment :) What you see as rocks are actually sea shells and are entirely covered with water, even at the bottom of the picture. I took this picture on velvia film.
