The four gold plated horses that jewel the entrance of St. Marcus, Venice, are much older than Rome. They were constructed somewhere in the interval 100-400 AD and were part of a gold-plated chariot with its charioteer at Chios island, Greece. Another aspect says it was made by Lysippos at 400 BC. The charriot was transferred to Constantinople in the first half of the 5th century AD by Emperor Theodosius II and placed in the Hippodrome. In 1204 AD, after the conquest of Constantinople by the crusaders, the horses got stolen and moved to Venice. They were positioned over the entrance of st. Marcus cathedral. Napoleon stole the horses, but he got forced to return them in 1815. Today, the original statue is inside the st.Marcus cathedral, while a copy decorates the entrance
