I wonder, if the mountain range is called Dial Range and part of that range is a peak called the Gnomon,( Gnomon meaning the vertical part of a sun dial )I guess it would be reasonable to assume that the Dial Range is named that way because it resembles a sun dial ? Cannot see how it does, but rather coincidental.
