G Lokey's conversations

The orchestra played the "James Bond Theme" in recognition of the sneaky beaky exploits of the Lysander in taking on the hazardous task of getting the SOE secret agents into France to join up with the Resistance in WWII.

This is the result of the fire on 30th July this year. The main arcade was the only large building affected and arson is now suspected. The pier was opened by Lord Cavendish on 13th June 1870 although it was not actually completed until two years later. On New Years Day 1877 the landward half was swept away in a storm and it was rebuilt at a higher level creating a drop towards the end of the pier. And not a lot of people know that! The pier, which is 300 metres long, is effectively built on stilts that rest on cups on the sea-bed allowing the whole structure to move during rough weather! Of course my mother-in-law, who we were visiting, probably remember it being built!!!

Repair work in full swing. Expected to be done by Christmas but they never said which Christmas!!!

I'll take your word for that Dave!

A good history lesson... there Geoff....... yeah'...I certainly didn't know that....................Dave

Yes, Dave, brilliant day in Cambridge. Lived within 35 miles all my life but never ventured into the city before although I had previously visited the American Cemetery!!!
