This statue is situated near the house. It was sculpted by Percy Bentham and the plaster original was exhibited in 1922 at the Royal Academy. It was cast in bronze and presented to the city by the Coventry Boy Foundation and installed in 1968.

Coombe Abbey is a hotel which has been developed from a Grade I listed building and former country house. The house's original grounds are now a country park known as Coombe Country Park and it is run by Coventry City Council. Coombe Abbey was founded as a monastery in the 12th century and following the Dissolution of the Monasteries in the 16th century it became a royal property. Elizabeth, Princess of Bohemia, was educated there in the early 17th century and had the Gunpowder Plot succeeded she was to have been abducted from Coombe Abbey and installed as Queen Elizabeth 2nd!!! So we would have never had to endure the present saga with Charles/Camilla/Diana and the rest of the sorry bunch. And very definitely not a lot of people know that!!!
This is a Wellington type steam tractor built in 1930 by William Foster and Co of Lincoln, an agricultural machinery company. We overtook it thinking it was a gypsy caravan and then pulled in up the road to get his photo to the delight of the driver!!!
