Questo castello mi appartiene da quando avevo 17 anni, ma lascio che se ne occupi lo Stato. Questa fu una delle prigioni della futura regina Elisabetta I, qui relegata dalla sorellastra Maria, detta la Sanguinaria, anche lei figlia di Enrico VIII. Qui Virgina Woolf ambientò la prima parte del suo libro "Orlando". Nella sala d'in- gresso, in una teca di vetro, si conserva il ma- noscritto originale. Ma dove sono finiti i daini? Dietro il castello, un giardino chiuso da un alto muro, e poi i campi da golf. Quindi comincia una foresta so- prattutto di querce (lo sapevate che ogni quer- cia in Inghilterra è proprietà della Regina?) Invece quelle del nostro boschetto di Baratti sono solo nostre), dove una volta mi persi. Lì un vecchio maschio con notevoli corna mi ca- ricò: urlai e lui scappò. Anch'io, dalla parte opposta. Vorrei tanto tornarci! Ma con due ginoc- chia da operare (e rimanda, rimanda, rimanda...), e altri acciacchi, anche se mi sento ancora gio- vane, come potrei? This is the smoke stack for the boilers that provided the steam for the steam turbine driven water pumps. The boilers are no longer used and the water pumps are equipped with electric motors, and the new back-up generator can be seen to one side.

Hey Steve,nice view! As an 18 yr old Maroubra boy I have fond memories sharing this view with Gavin R,Robbie P. and Gordon amongst others! The winter of 69 was paticularly brutal particularly for me as I vividly remember leaving the water,long after sunset,the others already had their evening meal suited up in trusty Kream boardshorts. Your property was known as Shalom back then-no showers!Kream was the forerunner of Billabong headed up by guru/genius Tommy Moses,a cutter by trade in the rag trade. Shalom was a spiritual time where I was surrounded by Astral Travellers- literally!Howzitt to you- regards, Jimmy Small.

If driving along Port Elizabeth coastline one will spot a few of this blockhouses

Just for interest sake, this is the first houses built in Port Elizabeth in the very early 1800's
