Actually, UKW, there are plans to put this stretch of the Nottingham Grantham canal back to water. The plans include a new marina at the old Cotgrave Pit site some mile south west of here. Ambitious, I think, as it would mean replacing numerous flattened bridges. Oh and these gates are not the only ones that do not hold water.

Doddington Hall stands today exactly as it was when built in 1595 by Architect Robert Smythson for Thomas Tailor who was the registrar to the Bishop of Lincoln.

The elegant Georgian interior contains a fascinating collection of pictures, textiles, porcelain and furniture that reflect four centuries of unbroken family occupation

A long awaited Farm Shop and Cafe are due to open in the summer of 2007

Gainsborough Trent Bridge from the Nottinghamshire side of the River Trent.

This bridge was built in 1787, by parliaments approval.

In the 1086 Domesday Book, Gainsborough was of little importance and was recorded as having no church.

The town is at latitude 53 deg. 23 min. 40 sec. north, longitude 40 min. west.

Known locally as Parish church. This is the only Georgian Church in Lincolnshire. Its grander title is All Saints. Well worth a visit and is often used for Concerts.Once surrounded by Iron Railing these were removed during the War.
