It is a Sea-Based X-Band Radar that is usually kept up near Adak, Alaska. From what I have read, it is part of the U.S. Defense Department Ballistic Missile Defense System. When it first came here, to Seattle, I remember seeing someone on the news talk about how powerful it is: saying that if someone were to hit a baseball out of the park as far away as Michigan, that thing could track it.
