This photo shows an African Boabab tree which was blown down by Hurricane David in 1979. The branches are regenerating from the trunk of the tree. This Adansonia digitata was brought to Dominica by Botanists from Kew Gardens England, to populate the Roseau Botanical gardens which was established around 1879.
Please note that this photograph was taken standing between the village name sign and the bench seat on the opposite side of the road and not near the windmill as some viewers thought
