I did it in early 1980! Together with 2,300 engineers and workers of Hidrogradnja Co. of Sarajevo, Yugoslavia (now: Bosnia-Herzegovina). We drilled the so-called 'road tunnel' - starting from the upstream end - primarily to have the direct access to the gravel borrow area abt. 10 km downstream from the jobsite. The tunnel was used by a constant stream of dump trucks, as we needed a huge amount of gravel for producing concrete. Of course, other vehicles and machines used the tunnel as well. We didn't put the concrete lining to the tunnel on purpose, as it might reduce the useful width by almost 1 m - the dump trucks were almost 4 m wide! We just sprayed the walls and the roof with 'shotcrete' to prevent any rockfall! The projected width - with concrete lining - was 8 m. The other tunnels (bottom outlet, power inlet and outlet, spillway) and the giant underground machine and transformer halls were completely drilled and lined with a thick armoured concrete walls. Five of the biggest Atlas-Copco 3-arm and 2 smaller 1-arm hydraulic drill rigs were used for the underground drilling jobs. Unfortunately, we were forced to leave the jobsite in mid-1990. Etc., etc...
