Hi,
I'm Capt. Dan. I spend most of my time taking folks out sailing. We go everywhere in the Santa Barbara Channel, from Pt. Conception to Catalina.
If you're heading this way, check out our cruising guide for information about anchorages on the islands. Or, if you're not sailing your own boat, come with us.
If you have questions about sailing in southern California, the website is chock full of current information. Or just call me at 805.750.7828.
see you on the water.

I agree - Fall is the best time of year to sail around here, though you do have to be mindful of the Santa Anas and the occasional rainshower.

Lady's Harbor on Santa Cruz is a fair weather anchorage. It can accommodate one 40' yacht.
This view shows the approach from the west. The anchorage opens up to the right of the rock in the foreground.

A pod of 8 - 10 Finwhales shadowed our boat for almost an hour.
It's the first time we've encountered Finwhales, 2nd largest whale in the world.
The played like dolphins, swimming all around us and occasionally turning on their backs.
We think they smiled and waved.
You can sail there with Sail Channel Islandsand maybe see one of these enormous creatures .. or maybe a gray whale or a humpback.

The caliche forest is the remains of a prehistoric forest that existed in the days of the pygmy mammoth, which, like the modern sheep, totally denuded the island.

On fall days, the beach at the foot of Nidever Canyon looks tropical. Without a wetsuit, it's too chilly for us. But the scenery on this (pretty much) uninhabited island is spectacular.
You can sail there aboard Sancerre with Sail Channel Islands

The Nidever canyon trail used to be a ranch road, capable of handling a Model-T. Today, it's a hike and half to the Ranger Station, the Cabrillo monument, the Caliche forest and points beyond.
