Great shot of the city skyline, L+F!
Sunken concrete ship. Used by folks for many years as a fishing platform.
Father Steve Horvath was here during the battle , who also served the last rights to 500 marines past away not too long ago !!!! He gave me two swords he took from two dead Japanese officers which are currently hanging on my wall !!!!!
Have wanted to go there since I was a child. Iwo Jima is a holy place for Americans...probably the Japanese, as well.
Great shot! My compliments to the artist with the camera.
Ike slammed Galveston hard but in no way was the historic city "wiped out". There was high water in the old city area downtown from the storm surge. The Sea Wall built after the Great Storm of 1900 has saved Galveston from destruction several times now.
Well, it looks like a shot of East Beach in Galveston, Texas...on the coast...some 45 miles east of Houston.
It was called Willie Bauer Street a few years ago...I believe it was named in honor of the great Beaumont Chief of Police.
Have to mention the photo is by Danny Lyon...an incredibly talented photographer whose pictures have been published all over the world. His books include "Conversations With the Dead" from Magnum Publishing Co.
