Ian @ Wilmar's conversations

If you take the train from naples or Sorrento to Castellamare di Stabia, a cable car runs direct from the railway station to the summit of Monte Faito. Or you can drive from Sorrento or Vico Equense, and if you do be sure to take a detour to Santa Maria del Castello, from where a 100m walk leads to a vantage point with a stunning view directly down on Positano.

In his book "Christ Stopped at Eboli", Carlo Levi relates a legend that the horns of a dragon are kept in this church. I visited, but as I don't know the Italian for "horns of a dragon" I'm none the wiser. Then it took me one-and-a-half hours to find where I'd parked my car.

This photo was taken from the summit of Monte san Constanza.

The path from the far end of the beach in this photo leads to a wonderful restaurant, Il Conca del Sogna. Looking the other way gives a breathtaking view of Capri.

This lovely coastal path between Marina del Cantone and Recommone leads to Restorante Il Conca del Sogna. From Termini a path leads to the top of Monte San Constanza and this view.

I love Sorrento. We're going back there at end-July, my fifth visit.

Last year I flew to Naples and hired a car. In seven days I drove 4,000 km all over the south of Italy, then returned to Sorrento for a week. I'll upload more photos. Ian

Who needs GPS :-) Thanks again - liked the Italian photos BTW.
