Our dearest Fü,
Another nice red pomegranate goes rolling by! It is a joy to know that you appreciate this image, for I thought I was being an artist with this one, especially with the boxes and frames within the image, and the glimpses of life in London.
Now I see the steps unpainted - and the paint wasted on graffiti! Why not paint the steps in blue, red and with a touch of white? Then add a black and white cat!
O Brian, it is congested, and it can take 3 hours just to drive to the airport from here and 4 hours back again, but it works and its density is also the density of its cultural richness
We loved every day of our visit. Each day seemed like the best day of our lives.
Our dear Füsun,
I am delighted to show you Istanbul through my lens!
How much of your amazing city did we explore in a week... and how much more is there to discover? And then there is all of Turkey: ...Malatya, Cilicia, Cappadocia, Van, Atalya, Ephesus, Ankara, Sinope, Gallipoli, Izmir .....and Bursa!
Don't underestimate the size of Australia when you plan on coming here!!
Ian & Marg
As I voyaged to these islands I kept thinking I was in the Adriatic or the Ionian or the Aegean Sea.. and it seemed we had left Istanbul behind so quickly. But what a privilege to sail upon the Marmara Sea - a tiny body of water that I learnt about as a child and used to map on the wet sand of the beach just for fun and dream!
Dream realised, 55 years on.
I wished that I had walked that road, Berend, but I didn't have time even to set foot on this island in the Sea of Marmara... but I did go onshore on others.
I remember that day, and the day before and the day after .... and the wonderful lunch, your wait at Starbucks, my tramrides around the Kadıköy circuit, the yoghurt and honey, the joy of a daughter, the art shops, the musical buskers, ... and the privilege that one day I hope to adequately repay when you come to us, dear Fü.
I delighted in the architecture on this island, Berend. Architecture really tells the grand story of a place.
Wonderful memories, my dear friend Füsun. Thank you for making them all so special.. even this old villa became more than a landmark - it became a special place of shared memories! And for that we are grateful,
Walking in a great city for the first time can be overwhelming resulting in only a limited view of the city streets, so I make myself stop and look up as often as possible, even if only to make a photograph to explore the details later.
