Nein? Nicht vergleichbar? Na, dann nicht!

Fantastic view. L+F

It is one of the oldest ancient theaters, built the golden era of the 5th century, when the region produced silver from the mines of Laurium. The altar is not in the center of the orchestra, but the edge, near the temple of Dionysus. Preserved in very good condition much of the grandstands. Figure Theatre looks more step. The Thorikos according to the excavations carried out in the region of the Belgian archaeological mission in the period 1963-1976, was one of the earliest settlements in Attica and one of the oldest maritime fortresses. Reportedly inhabited since the fourth millennium BC In classical times it was the capital of the municipality THORIKOU located in today Velatouri hill to the north and south formed small plains. And the port of Thorikos in the homonymous bay today, showed great movement of transit trade, especially timber and minerals. Archaeological evidence suggests that the lead mining in the area began during the third millennium BC while silver from 1500 BC In the area have revealed traces of Mycenaean installation including five vaulted tombs belonging to the period 1600 - 1100 BC .. The installation was probably related to the exploitation of the mines in the area. According to tradition, the city of Thorikos founded by Kekropakai was one of 12 municipalities of Attica, Theseus united in one state. The city continued to be inhabited and subsequent years. Mainly covered the hill and the small peninsula located between the bay of Thorikos and Fragolimano. The town was fortified during the Peloponnesian war the Athenians to protect the mines. Declined after the exhaustion of the mines and abandoned after the invasion of the Roman general Sulla in 86 BC [1]. It was inhabited again in the coming years and finally deserted in the 6th century AD after the raids of the Slavs in Greece. The main attraction of the archaeological site of Thorikos, is the ancient theater which is believed to be the oldest surviving today in Greece. [2]. Dated between 525 and 480 BC and consists of rectangular orchestra and 21 rows. On the east side of the hill is the largest vaulted tomb of the Mycenaean period and near the top of the hill are the remains of other tombs.
