From ground to torch the monument stands 93m (305') tall. A gift from France, the statue was the brainchild of Frederic-Aguste Bartholdi. It was unveiled on Bedloes Island (now Liberty Island) on 28 Oct 1886 by President Grosvenor Cleveland.
