Ignoring local objections, a shortage of affordable housing, and proposals for renovation, these 117 viable houses in Richard Cooper Street and Phoenix Street are being bought up by the East Yorkshire local authority, boarded up, and left to rot. It seems likely the houses will eventually be replaced by fewer, more expensive new houses, but proposals are vague because no compulsory purchase order has been issued. Instead the remaining residents endure dreadful conditions as their numbers dwindle through attrition. This is the "Pathfinder Scheme" in action.
