P.S. Diesen altertümlichen Friedhof Gottes! Es nicht die Stelle für die Exkursionen!

These horses once stood at the hippodrome of Constantinople. The Venetians brought them home after the infamous sack of that ancient city in 1204.

This church was one of the few buildings that remained standing, after 9/11, and miraculously didnt lose even a pane of glass. They turned the church into a refuge for all of us working at the site on the recovery and cleanup. We were there 7 days a week 12 hours a day along with a night shift. Work and recovery never stopped. This was a place to go to get away from the noise and the smells, especially the smell of death. There were volunteers there, always. We could get coffee, some food, even a massage some days if you wanted it.I had an infection in my foot and I found a foot Dr. there who did an onsite minor surgery for me !! I would meet with friends at 6 am before our 7 oclock start for coffee and a few moments of prayer. This place had a great presence of peace and quiet for many of us. Thank god for the volunteers and clergy who were there to be of service and comfort us.
