It is a quiet area, although out on the adjacent plains there are extensive sugar cane farms. The lillipilli (Waterhousia sp.) riverine forest can be very dense and when the river floods the forest snares much of the debris which makes the forest quite untidy. This channel may seem small but when in flood this river carries a large discharge.
This location also has historical significance for our family.
Thanks, Berend. The residential estate in the background is adjacent to major retail and light industrial land uses. My background in urban geography makes this an interesting image for me. I certainly enjoy the flights over urban areas.
I wanted to show the patchwork of land subdivision and of suburban development. The State Archives occupies the large complex surrounded by native forest. Thanks for continuing to take an interest in these images, Berend.
Q1 and Soul are the two highest apartment towers pictured, Berend. I doubt that the original investors made much money out of them. And if they are fully occupied then I marvel. Maybe the tourists from Singapore, Japan, South Korea, China and Hong Kong like them.
It was just after sunrise so there was no one on the beach even though it was a warm sunny morning and the sea temperature was warm as well. I guess the reason we like the landscape is the same reason there are so many high rise apartment buildings, Berend.
Thanks and warm greetings,
Lovely Ian - see you both tomorrow about 10am? Karen
