I delight in exploring our hoop pine forests, Berend. Light and shade, ready access, the clean creeks, ferns and epiphytes, fungi and mosses, and the occasional spotting of deer make it a pleasurable environment.
Our blue gums (Eucalyptus tereticornis) love the deep soils of the valley floors, but as that part of the land system is also the areas that are commonly cultivated much of the blue gum forests have gone. And there isn't very much blue gum landscape that has been conserved within our national park system either. In Victoria these same trees that we call blue gums (because of the colour of the fresh bark) are called red gums (because of the colour of their wood.
I appreciate your responses, Berend.
