I don't recognise this facade but it may have changed ... the Scala was in Zetland Road, Bristol 9 and was run for some years by my grandparents. Fred Seymour - about whom I would welcome any input, photoes etc. I spent many holidays there and in the flat they lived in behind. Many years later as a UWE student I would go there for 'student nights' - it had gone downhill by then. I wasn't allowed to see many films by ny grandparents but I remember seeing' The Magnificent Seven' every night for a week.

This photo appears to show my Great Uncles house (1st on the left in the photo). He had a large patch of a land at the side of the house (it was the end of the terrace) He had stables on this land as well as a good size smallholding. He was a haulier until he retired, and had large (shire?) horses to pull the dray. My sister and I used to play in the empty stables on our visits. His name was 'Jack' Williams, originally from Trellech, near Monmouth.(His proper forename was Timothy) He was married to Emily, (formerly Weir). His sister lived in the house next door.

I am the grandson of Mrs Dyer and I knew much of this story.

Sorry to be pedant, but Mrs Dyer never had a sister, she had a brother William Taylor and it was probably her sister-in-law Kit/Catherine (not her sister) who looked after my mum, olive.

I can not fill you in on many more details, but Harry Knot stayed good friends with my mum until his death and my grandmother (who died in 1984) .

It was great to come across this article and I will pass it on to my mum.

Best wishes

Chris Jarrett

...the 60s and 70s were happy years for me, and thanks, historybuff, for reliving the good times through your fotos. In particular I recall Keynsham through an advert on Radio Luxemburg about the 'infra-draw method' of doing football pool. Looking back now, it was all part of growing up, wasn't it? I suppose Mr Horace Bachelor is still around doing his football pool...good man !!

The public house in the picture is the Lord Raglan, the Nags Head is further up the hill on the right just out of sight.
