Yes it was submerged when the dam was built creating Kentucky Lake in 1944.

The dam does not show up on the map because it is a wicket dam (the dam is lowered during high water). When the image was made the dam was under water. It is only raised during low water to maintain a deep enough pool stage above the dam for commercial traffic.

I may have been on the Delta Queen when this was taken. I worked on her for many years as a Riverlorian. I really miss that beautiful boat and hope some day that she will again be plying the rivers http://riverlorian.com/

This is only a dam. There is no navigational lock at this structure

Megan, the only way to get to this location is by boat. The land access at Shippingport Island is restricted. You can see this dam from the boat ramp at Clarksville.
